THAT SUPPORT EFFICIENCY, COLLABORATION AND INNOVATION
After Action Reviews (AARs) are structured debriefs where project team members
discuss what worked, what didn’t work and what should be done differently next time.
Pioneered by the US military, and now used by many corporations and NGOs, the application
of AARs in law firms remains limited, with just 15% of firms undertaking regular
AARs. This session examines the characteristics of an effective AAR and how to build a
culture that can realise the benefits of this valuable performance and learning tool.

USING CSR TO DRIVE CULTURAL CHANGE AND ALIGN IT TO YOUR STRATEGY
As CEO of Grant Thornton Greg Keith led 150 Partners to Cambodia to build homes for AIDS
effected families suffering extreme poverty. Through that process the Grant Thornton Partnership
gained far more than they gave. They learnt to trust one another, support each other,
collaborate, they pushed themselves way outside of their comfort zones and they reflected
and questioned the balance each of them had in life. As a direct consequence, Greg changed
his approach to how he engaged his fellow partners and the operating structure. In this session,
Greg will share how they combined their culture journey with their strategic goals.
GREG KEITH | CEO | GRANT THORNTON
17:00 - 18:00
⚫ SESSION 6: HOW TO CREATE A CULTURE WHERE INNOVATION THRIVES
It is universally recognised that innovation is key to growing a business. As such, creating a
culture where innovation thrives is critical. However, when surveyed about what they think
creates a culture of innovation, over 95% of business leaders get the answers wrong. They
are basing their decisions on intuition rather than science. Judy Anderson will share with
you the 14 key drivers to creating a culture of innovation - according to what has been scientifically
proven. In a highly interactive keynote, you will get to see how closely your intuition
matches with science. In addition to the science, Judy will share stories from some of the
world’s most innovative organisations about how they are applying these principles.
YOU WILL LEAVE WITH AN UNDERSTANDING OF:
• The 14 drivers that matter when it comes to creating a culture of innovation
• The top five most impactful areas where you should be focusing your innovation efforts
• Case studies and strategies from the world’s most innovative companies on how they are
• Creating a culture where innovation thrives
• Practical ideas to unlock breakthrough thinking through creating the right type of working
environment.

BREAKFAST BRIEFING - FILEMAN
Take an age-old industry that has essentially operated the same way since the beginning
of time and :
1) Reimagine the way things could be done;
2) Deliver significant process improvements and cost savings;
3) Build a zero-cost, modern-era, cloud-based app to make it all magically work.
Now if that’s not disruption, then what is ?

⚫ SESSION 2 : PARTNER COMPENSATION & RE-THINKING THE FIRM ECOSYSTEM
PARTNER COMPENSATION & RE-THINKING THE FIRM ECOSYSTEM
Law firm remuneration plans are by and large unsophisticated, hard to administer, opaque,
and focused on rewarding the wrong behaviors. As someone wise once said, “If your compensation
plan is in conflict with your strategy, your compensation plan is your strategy.”
To generate maximum financial performance in a law firm, and achieve the highest levels of
client satisfaction, we need to re-align the incentives. A good plan will resolve the conflict
between partners pursuing their individual self-interest and what’s good for the collective
long-term health of the firm. A better plan will not only recognize the variable contributions
made by partners, it will foster higher quality work product by ensuring work is delegated
to the right person. The best plans provide clear guidance to partners to both drive and
reward desired behaviors. In this session we’ll discuss how progressive leaders are finally
turning to remuneration schemes to drive change in their law firms.

⚫ SESSION 5: TECHNOLOGY KNOWHOW - INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP
CYBERSECURITY - BE WARY IN ORDER NOT TO BE AFRAID
One of the most significant business risk for law firms at the moment is cyber and data security,
especially since technology is increasingly woven throughout law firm processes and
service delivery to clients. High profile hacks and breaches to law firms and professional
services firms have resulted in an increased awareness and law firm Partners and clients are
taking note. Clients are increasingly stepping up demands of law firms to ensure their data is
sufficiently secure, firms are certified and issues around data geo-location and impact of cloud
services are in line with their “supplier” risk management needs. It is becoming a huge challenge
for managing partners (from small to large firms) to mitigate the risk and be confident
that the risk is appropriately managed on an ongoing basis.
In this ‘hands-on’ session, Peter will be running an interactive workshop where he will be going
through a short cyber security scenario and how all firm representatives react and ultimately
review the situation. The importance of having a proper cybersecurity programme in place for
unexpected attacks is pertinent for firms to safeguard against attacks.

LAW FIRMS OF THE FUTURE: MORE "BLADERUNNER THAN SUITS
"How will professions like law, accounting, medicine, for example going to thrive or otherwise
in an age of intergenerational change, technological advancement, particularly artificial intelligence
and blockchain.
In a scenario setting of both near and far, the following points will be discussed:
• What would a decentralised and disintermediated law firm look like that is run through a
blockchain?
• When will robots be accepted as partners in a law firm?
• That is, what will a world where robots, machines, and AI have rights, duties and responsibilities
look like to us?
• Would robot partners vote?
